SAW

SAW is the Size Application Window program. When I was creating self-study software simulations for Ziff-Davis Education, I had to take a lot of screen shots to get the "building block" images to build the simulations. The size of the application window when I was taking screen shots was very important. If the window elements varied by just 1 pixel, the simulation would be choppy and amateurish. To automate the sizing of application windows, I created the SAW application, originally using Borland Delphi, and later porting it to Borland C++ Builder.

When SAW runs, it enumerates a list of all of windows of all the running applications. To size a window automatically, you simply select a preset size and/or location, select the window you want to resize, and click on the "SAW!" button. As other folks at Ziff-Davis Education started using SAW, they asked me to add features, so eventually it became a fairly feature-laden program.

You can add your own favorite window sizes and locations, and you can "grab" window sizes and locations from windows. Sometimes it's easier to select a window by pointing at it, rather than picking its name from a list, so SAW enables you to drag the saw icon onto the window to automatically select that window in the list.
