SADIE

SADIE is the Skills Assessment Delivery Interactive Engine. Below is a screen shot of SADIE delivering a performance-based, or true assessment in Microsoft Word. As you can see, SADIE creates a specific context (such as opening a specific document), and then has the learner perform a specific task in that context to evaluate learners' mastery of an objective. It is required that the subject application (in example below, Microsoft Word) be installed on the user's PC for SADIE to deliver the assessment. (SADIE warns the user of the problem if the correct application is not installed.) Embedded within the single SADIE executable file is all other data necessary for the assessment. The Word document shown below, for example, was embedded within the SADIE program. SADIE extracts the data documents from itself as needed, and then deletes them from the user's PC after the assessment is finished. SADIE returns assessment results back to the testing administrator via the means that the testing administrator defined when generating the assessments -- such as email attachment, FTP/network "file drop," or disk file. The testing administor can opt to have a report displayed to the user at the end of the assessment, which shows how the user fared on the assessment.
